Analysis of Second-Order Thrust Bearing Coefficients Considering Misalignment Effect

Abstract Purpose Thrust bearings play a critical role in high-speed rotating machinery, such as turbines, pumps, compressors, and turbogenerators, by transferring axial loads between the collar bearing pads. The lubricating fluid prevents contact, friction, wear solid parts acts cooling medium. purpose of this study is to evaluate first- second-order coefficients an inclined pad hydrodynamic thrust bearing, which have not been previously investigated, improve accuracy modeling bearings. Methods In analysis systems, film modeled massless spring-damper system. finite perturbation method for governing Reynolds equation used calculate dynamic bearing. This done using difference (FDM) polar coordinates. Results investigates influence misalignment, speed, mesh size on results show that misalignment angle thickness clear effect coefficients, while changing rotational speed has no damping coefficients. also force moments Conclusion concludes evaluating can highlights significant presented provide valuable data be input rotor dynamics analyses machinery.
